Scholarship Description:

As one of its contributions to development co-operation, K.U.Leuven offers each academic year scholarships to deserving students from developing countries to do their PhD in the largest university in Flanders, Belgium.

Also commonly referred to as the IRO scholarships (IRO in Dutch stands for Interfacultaire Raad voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking), this scholarship programme has supported more than sixty Ph.D. graduates over the past five years. After obtaining their doctorates at K.U.Leuven, these Ph.D. holders are now valorising their degrees in their home countries either in university academic research or in various sectors of industry.

K.U.Leuven, which is situated at about 20 kilometers from Brussels, the capital of both Belgium and Europe, is the oldest university of the Low Countries. As such, it has a long-standing tradition of hospitality towards students and scholars from abroad. At present, almost 4,000 international students (about 10% of the total number of students at K.U.Leuven) have found their home away from home in Leuven.

Scholarship Description: The programme is designed to help promising research students to pursue a full-time 3 year PhD study or a 6-12 month post-doctoral research work in scientific disciplines that enhance development in IDB member countries; forinstance, health/medicine, agriculture/ food production, water resources/ desertification, energy/ infrastructure development, nanotechnology, development-focused ICT.

Eligibility
-Must be a citizen of an IDB member country, must be a permanent employee of an academic institution or a research centre of his/her country;
- The successful candidate must secure admission to one universities listed in the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES).
- Be up to 35 years of age for PhD study and 40 years of age for Post-Doctoral research;
- Have the required academic background in the related field of science/ technology listed under the
Programme;
- Have above average (“Very Good”) academic standing ;
-Have work and/or research experience of not less than two (2) years for PhD study or five (5) years for
Post-Doctoral research in the related field;
- Have a record of publications/ research in the same field;
- Have a proposed field of study and/or research in one of the fields listed under the approved fields of study with its scientific and development relevance to the country being clearly demonstrated in a research proposal endorsed by the nominating institution.
* Applicants for post-doctoral research who have had a Post-Doctoral experience outside their countries within the past two years are not eligible.

Scholarship Description: The Wells Mountain Foundation is a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont which has been approved under the United States Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3).

The purpose of the Foundation is primarily to support programs and individuals in third world countries, or other situations of extreme poverty and need.Each year the Foundation provides support to a number of students as they pursue various educational objectives.

Typically support is provided for post-secondary school (college, university, polytechnic, trade school). Financial support is primarily to cover the costs of the education itself, and directly related expenses including books, and supplies at the educational institution. In some limited cases the support can be extended to cover other personal expenses while pursuing the educational objective including food and lodging, travel to and from the educational institution, and other personal needs.

Scholarships will generally be granted for the full period of study, however, recipients must provide copies of all progress reports and grades as they are received and the scholarship can be discontinued at any time in the event of unsatisfactory performance.

Japanese Association of University Women International Fellowship, Japan

Fellowship Description:
Japanese Association of University Women(JAUW) was founded in 1946,and in 1954 joined International Federation of University Women?IFUW? which had been established in 1919. Today some170,000 are members of IFUW from 71 nations in the world.
According to its Constitution, the purposes of JAUW are:
1. To promote higher education for women
2. To improve the status of women and girls
3. To promote understanding and friendship among the university women of the world, irrespective of their race, nationality, religion or political opinions

Research grants for students from any country to undertake geographical research in the Greater China region

Scholarship Description: The Society offers a single annual research grant of up to £2,500 to a postgraduate student of any nationality who intends to undertake geographical research in the Greater China region (People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Macau SAR and Hong Kong SAR). The grant which is supported by the Hong Kong branch of The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), may be used to help with travel, equipment, data collection and subsistence in the field.

The PhD training will be carried out in your chosen laboratory at A*STAR research institutes, NTU or NUS. Upon successful completion, you will be conferred a PhD degree by either NTU or NUS.

This award is for international applicants seeking admission to pursue a full-time PhD programme at NTU.

Successful applicants for the Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) will receive their PhD training in their chosen laboratory at A*STAR research institutes or NTU. Upon successful completion of their course, they will be conferred a PhD degree by NTU.
