Fellowship Description:n 1996, the International House of Japan and the Japan Foundation jointly launched the Asia Leadership Fellow Program (ALFP).The ALFP seeks to create a close, personal and professional network of public intellectuals in Asia, deeply rooted in and committed to civil society beyond their own cultural, disciplinary and geopolitical backgrounds.

More than 60 percent of the world’s population lives in the region called Asia, where different social institutions, economic systems, cultures, religions and ethnicities co-exist. This rich diversity includes a wide variety of problems. There is violence against human life and dignity in the form of socio-economic disparity, environmental deterioration, and racial, religious and cultural conflicts.

Who is Eligible for ALFP?

The ALFP is open to citizens of Northeast-, Southeast- and South-Asian countries, aged 35 to 59, inclusive. A postgraduate degree is not a prerequisite, but applicants must have a good command of English and have demonstrated outstanding leadership ability or potential in their own professions.

There is no prescribed set of professions for an ALFP fellow; the professions of past fellows include, but are not limited to, academia, journalism, business, national and local politics, education, administration, the arts, publications, and NGO and non-profit activities. The ALFP is also eager to broaden the professional and disciplinary backgrounds of fellows. Regardless of his/her profession, a fellow is expected to have access to a wide audience in his/her country or region through publications, teaching, media, performance, etc. to disseminate his/her thoughts and findings.

Curtin International Postgraduate Research Scholarships, Australia

International scholarship at Curtin University of Technology to undertake a Master’s by Research or Doctoral degree.

Scholarship Description:The CIPRS is available to any international student wishing to commence a Higher Degree by Research at Curtin for the first time in 2012.

Eligibility: The award is open to citizens of an overseas country (excluding New Zealand). Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and research capacity to suitably qualified overseas graduates eligible to commence a higher degree by research in 2012*.

Value: The CIPRS provides:
* Course tuition fee for two years for a Master’s (by Research) and a maximum of three and a half years for a Doctoral degree; and
* a living allowance with a minimum value of $22,500 per annum (2010 value).

The Government of the Czech Republic Scholarships 2011 for Developing Countries, Czech Republic

Government scholarships for Developing Countries students

Scholarship Description: The Government of the Czech Republic offers a number of scholarships within the framework of its Foreign Development Assistance Programme in support of the study of foreign nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic.

These so called Government Scholarships are designed to cover the standard length of study:

1) in Bachelor/Master study programmes plus one-year preparatory course of the Czech language (which is combined with other field-specific training). Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary schools who can enrol only in study programmes in which they follow instruction in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, applicants are normally required to take entrance examinations at the respective institution of higher education. The scholarship award is conditional upon a successful passing of entrance examinations;


2) in follow-up Master study programmes or Doctoral study programmes. Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates of Bachelor or Master study programmes, respectively, who enrol in study programmes with instruction in the English language.

Fellowship Description: The Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL) are a joint venture of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna, conducting high level research and training in the fields of biotechnology and molecular life sciences. Our research is curiosity-driven, covering a broad range of research areas including Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Computational and Structural Biology, Organismal Biology and Neuro-sciences.

It is carried out in over 60 independent research groups involving more than 470 people from all over the world. Located at the Vienna Biocenter Campus, the Max F. Perutz Laboratories enable young scientists to participate in high quality research in an international academic environment as well as establishing connections with nearby companies


Successful candidates are expected to have a strong training in molecular life sciences or a related discipline (MD, Mathematics, Physics, etc.) and be determined to follow an academic career in research.

You must hold a doctorate degree or equivalent before the start of the PostDoc-training but not necessarily when applying.

There are no restrictions concerning the nationality of the applicants.

Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA), USA

Scholarship Description: The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) was first introduced in 1993. It is funded by the Government of Japan, administered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and conducted at various graduate schools in Japan. Its objective is to contribute to institutional capacity building in economic policymaking to promote the sustainable growth of emerging and developing economies in Asia and the Pacific. By training future macroeconomic managers in these countries, the JISPA aims to enable them to better formulate sound economic and financial stability policies needed for sustainable growth and development.

The JISPA targets highly motivated government officials who may serve as future macroeconomic policy makers with the capacity and vision to contribute effectively to the economic development of their countries. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of the candidate’s academic record and work background, mathematical and statistics skills, English language proficiency, and potential for contributing to the macroeconomic and financial management and economic development of their country. The assessment also includes qualities such as the candidate’s commitment to public service, willingness to learn, and openness to new ideas.
