Master’s degree in Library & Information Science

ADMISSION NOTICE

ASSOCIATESHIP IN INFORMATION SCIENCE (AIS) COURSE
Batch 2010-12

NISCAIR conducts a two-year course, Associateship in Information Science (AIS) which is equivalent to Master’s degree in Library & Information Science and is recognized by Government of India and many Universities. Applications are invited for admission to the AIS 2010-2012 batch of the course commencing from September 15, 2010.

Eligibility: Applicant should have minimum of 50% aggregate marks in :
(i) Master’s degree; or
(ii) Four-year plus degree like B.E./M.B.B.S. ; or
(iii) Bachelor’s degree plus B.Lib.Sc. plus one year of relevant experience after B.Lib.Sc.
(iv) Students who have appeared in the final year examination of (i) and (ii) above are also eligible for applying for admission to the Course. However, their cases will be considered only in the event of their final results being declared before the final selection and their obtaining a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
(v) Candidates should be below 40 years of age as on August 01, 2010. For sponsored candidates, the age limit may be raised to 50 years.

Selection: A total of twenty-five candidates would be selected based on Admission Test (July 21, 2010) and Interview (First week of August, 2010).

Test Centres: New Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore
The Admission Test will be of two-hour duration and is intended to test the candidates’ skills in English language, general knowledge, basic mathematics and logic to ascertain their aptitude towards information science.

Interview Centre: NISCAIR, New Delhi
Candidates found successful in the admission test will be called for final selection only at New Delhi. Shortlisted outstation candidates appearing for interview will be paid 2nd class sleeper return rail fare or equivalent as per the shortest route.

Scholarships: Provision for scholarship to non-sponsored meritorious students @ Rs. 2000/- per month for a period of 9 months exists.

Application form, complete in all respects, should be submitted to the Head, ETD, NISCAIR on or before July 12, 2010.

Australia Awards: Australian Leadership Awards (ALAs) – scholarships and Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)

Scholarships to study in Australia are an integral part of the Australian Government’s development cooperation program across South Asia. The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) provides Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) and Australian Leadership Awards –Scholarships (ALAs) to Maldivians to support higher education learning which can contribute to the development
of the Maldives.

ALA Scholarships are available for postgraduate and doctorate level studies and aim to develop leadership, build partnerships and linkages within the Asia-Pacific, and address priority regional issues. ALA Scholarships are intended for those people who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the South Asia region. Recipients are drawn from the public, private and community sectors. Selection for ALA Scholarships is highly competitive and is based on leadership qualities and on academic excellence.

ADS aims to strengthen human resource capacity by providing valuable knowledge, skills, and qualifications in key target areas, with the objective of providing better services to the poor in the region.ADS are offered to both public and private sector employees in the Maldives.

Edinburgh Global Development Academy Master’s Scholarships, UK

The University of Edinburgh will offer 2 full Master’s scholarships for students from less developed countries and 2 partial Master’s scholarships for UK/EU students for eligible Master’s programmes offered by the University.


Scholarships will be available for students pursuing one of the following Global Development Academy programmes:



* MSc Africa and International Development
* MSc Environment and Development
* MSc Science, Technology and International Development
* MSc Multilevel and Regional Politics

Each full scholarship will cover the overseas rate of tuition fee, a maintenance allowance of £10,000 and return flights. Each partial scholarship will cover the UK/EU rate of tuition fee only.

Eligibility


The full scholarships will be awarded to students who are accepted for admission onto an eligible Global Development Academy programme at the University of Edinburgh. Applicants must be both nationals of and resident in the the following countries: See the list

Countries listed above are defined as least developed nations by the United Nations Composition of macro geographical (continental) regions, geographical sub-regions, and selected economic and other groupings.


Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level or the international equivalent.

Application Procedure

Candidates should have applied for postgraduate admission and received an offer of admission on one of the Global Development Academy programmes before making an application for an Edinburgh Global Development Academy Master's Scholarship.

Eligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application

Completed application forms must be received by the Scholarships and Student Finance Office no later than 31 May 2010.

Selection Procedure

A Selection Committee will meet in late June 2010 to select the scholarship holders. The winners of the scholarships will be announced by the end of June 2010.
